Accreditation & Affiliations

The Palmer School of Library and Information Science at LIU Post is proud of its industry and educational affiliations. We will continue to expand our partnerships and affiliations to establish a broader range of opportunities for our students. LIU is numbered among those institutions of higher education that meet or exceed the rigorous standard of accrediting associations and commissions. The Palmer School continually conducts self-studies and evaluations of its curricula to ensure our students receive the highest quality academic programs and services. In addition many professors and staff hold memberships in a variety of professional associations.

American Library Association Accreditation

The Palmer School’s M.S. in Library and Information Science is one of only 65 programs accredited by the American Library Association in the United States and Canada. Graduating from an ALA-accredited program enhances career mobility by opening doors to the broadest range of job opportunities. Most employers require an ALA-accredited master's degree for professional level positions, and many states require an ALA-accredited degree to work as a professional librarian in public or school libraries.

iSchool Consortium

The iSchool Caucus seeks to maximize the visibility and influence of its member schools, and their interdisciplinary approaches to harnessing the power of information and technology, and maximizing the potential of humans. We envision a future in which the iSchool Movement has spread around the world, and the information field is widely recognized for creating innovative systems and designing information solutions that benefit individuals, organizations, and society. iSchool graduates will fill the personnel and leadership needs of organizations of all types and sizes; and our areas of research and inquiry will attract strong support and have profound impacts on society and on the formulation of policy from local to international levels.

Middle States Commission on Higher Education

The academic programs of LIU Post are registered with the New York State Education Department and accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The Middle States Commission on Higher Education is a voluntary, non-governmental, membership association that is dedicated to quality assurance and improvement through accreditation via peer evaluation. Middle States accreditation instills public confidence in institutional mission, goals, performance, and resources through its rigorous accreditation standards and their enforcement.
