Description
A member of the Department of Physical Therapy since 1998, Dr. States' teaching focuses on the skills needed for evidence-based physical therapy practice, along with issues in neuroscience and motor control/learning. She has done research on community-based group exercise for people with Parkinson disease, and health promotion programs for older urban and minority adults. She has also participated in systematic reviews on topics such as gait after stroke, 3D gait analysis for children with cerebral palsy, the effects of yoga on hypertension, and reviews of various musculoskeletal disorders. Dr. States previously served as President of the Brooklyn Campus Faculty Senate, an officer in the Long Island University Faculty Federation (faculty union), Co-Chair of the Faculty Review Committee, and on various university or campus committees. Dr. States lives in Queens with her husband and two children.
